About this role:

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Electronics Failure Analysis Engineer. This individual will apply electrical and/or electronic principles to both analog and digital systems to execute failure analysis of failed printed circuit boards as well as thorough and accurate root cause analysis investigation of electrical and mechanical characteristics. This role provides support to the Manufacturing Electrical Engineering team for investigations and corrections and supports investigations related to automated test equipment failures as well as automated test equipment test fixture support at contract manufacturers. Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Writing test/validation and qualification protocols and reports, including detailed technical analysis and recommendations
  • Interfacing with the Product Development team providing remote support to their members for conducting design verification testing
  • Working with the Electrical Engineering team at in Orange County to support manufacturing PCBA testing stations for all of our products
  • Assisting with design verification testing for mechanical/electrical devices and test fixtures
  • Performing IQC functions (visual inspection, functional verification) and maintaining inventory of failed PCBAs until disposition.
  • Maintaining FA lab tools and equipment inventory.
  • Operating automated testers with pre-programmed testing routines for functional PCBA verification
  • Performing a variety of tasks to support manufacturing
  • Supporting Manufacturing on multiple projects based on day-to-day demand.
  • Capable of running established management software tools to track and trend production data
  • Applying appropriate standards, procedures, policies, practices and tools to daily activities in compliance with FDA CFR21, IPC-A-610 and ISO 13485 Quality System Regulations
  • Performing failure analysis of electronic circuits and components on test equipment and PCBAs
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills; experience untangling problems to identify root cause;
  • Working with cross-functional teams; effective in communicating technical concepts to non-technical people and translating their concerns to engineering impact
  • Using failure analysis tools, techniques, and processes
  • Strong organizational and time management instincts; able to coordinate resources to meet deadlines in the context of competing priorities and projects; ability to work well under pressure.
  • Using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, power analyzer and test systems to do board failure analysis, debug and perform bench testing including measurements analysis.
  • Providing onsite technical support at PCBA Contract Manufacturing (mid/high volume)

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 7+ years’ progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably on functional test equipment and PCBA failure analysis.
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in SMT assembly line processes.
  • Experience with RF testing (BLE & LTE/5G), comfortable reading circuit board schematics Familiarity with Bluetooth/BLE, LTE standards and RF test a plus.
  • Familiarity with Altium or equivalent ECAD is a plus.
  • Experience with communication protocols like RS-232, RS-485, USB, J-Tag, SPI, I2C
  • Experience with battery powered devices.
  • Hands-on experience using test equipment (frequency generator, oscilloscope, frequency counter, signal analyzer, spectrum analyzer,
  • DMM, power supply, data acquisition unit, LCR, etc.) on daily basis work.
  • Experience reworking PCBA components.
  • Experience performing FAT and SAT and data collection for GR&R
  • Experience writing and debugging test software in Lab-View, Python, Visual Basic is a plus.
  • Experience working in the Medical Device, Aerospace, Aviation, Automotive or Defense Industries
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and disciplined to meet deadlines in the context of competing priorities and projects
  • Good manual dexterity and the ability to operate electromechanical measurement/test equipment and prototype tool/fixtures
  • Ability to read and properly interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Availability to provide remote support after business hours if required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Technical experience in multi-disciplinary environments, particularly embedded systems Strong organizational detail oriented personality and time management instincts; able to coordinate resources to meet deadlines in the context of competing priorities and projects
  • Proven documentation and technical writing skills, including the ability to manage specifications, develop and maintain design documentation, and author technical reports.
